Privacy Policy

AuraDark is a Shopify app that adds a dark mode / night theme toggle to a merchant's online store. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, how long it is kept, and the choices available to merchants and their customers. We collect only the minimum data required for the app to function.
Who this policy covers
This policy applies to two groups: merchants who install AuraDark on their Shopify store, and the merchant's store visitors (buyers) who interact with the dark mode toggle on the storefront.
Information we collect through Shopify APIs
When a merchant installs AuraDark, Shopify provides the app with:
- The store's myshopify.com domain and an access token, used to identify the store and to save the app's settings to the store via Shopify's metafields. The app requests no access scopes to customer, order, or product data.
Information we collect from merchants
We store the configuration a merchant enters in the app's admin settings — for example whether dark mode is enabled, which pages it applies to, and how the toggle looks (colors, size, position). This is store-configuration data, not personal data.
Information we collect from store visitors
When a visitor uses the dark mode toggle on a merchant's storefront, the app may record a pseudonymous usage event so the merchant can see how often the feature is used. Each event contains only:
- the action taken (toggle turned on/off);
- the mode selected (dark or light);
- a broad device category (desktop, tablet, or mobile);
- the type of page (e.g. homepage, product, cart);
- a randomly generated pseudonymous visitor ID used only to count unique visitors.
We do not collect visitors' names, email addresses, IP addresses, precise location, order history, or payment information, and the pseudonymous ID cannot be used to identify an individual. On storefronts where Shopify's customer privacy / consent settings indicate that analytics are not permitted, these events are not recorded.
How we use this information
- To provide and operate the dark mode feature according to the merchant's settings.
- To show the merchant aggregate analytics about how their visitors use the toggle.
We do not sell any data, and we do not use it for advertising or share it with third parties for their own purposes.
Where data is stored
App data is stored in a hosted PostgreSQL database (Railway) and is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Data may be processed in the region where our hosting and database providers operate.
Data retention and deletion
We keep a store's settings and usage events only while the app is installed. When a merchant uninstalls AuraDark, the store's associated data is deleted or scheduled for deletion. As required by Shopify, the app also responds to the mandatory privacy webhooks:
customers/data_request— a request to view stored customer data (we hold none that identifies a customer);customers/redact— a request to delete a specific customer's data;shop/redact— a request, sent after uninstall, to delete the store's data.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the GDPR, CPRA, and other privacy regulations — including the right to access, correct, or delete personal data. Because AuraDark does not store personal data that identifies individual buyers, most such requests are satisfied automatically.
